COURSE OVERVIEW

BC Business of Music Production

Led by Elisa Pangsaeng, Ryan Worsley, Chin Injeti and in partnership with Creative BC, this program is focused on supporting the sharing of knowledge and development of BC producers. Speaking on everything from the role of a producer, to sustaining a career in it, to networking and selling yourself as producers, the mentors will guide emerging BC producers through how they've propelled in the industry. Participants will meet weekly via Zoom, rotating between meeting as a group and 1on1 with with each producer. The last session includes a listening and feedback session between all 3 producers and participants.

WEEK 1: WHAT'S THE ROLE OF A PRODUCER AND HOW TO BE A GREAT ONE with ELISA PANGSAENG

  • Elisa discusses where the job of a producer starts and ends, what's expected from a producer, and how to best set the tone in a studio.

  • Each participant meets 1on1 with Elisa for 45 minutes for career coaching

WEEK 2: BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE CAREER AND THE BUSINESS OF MUSIC PRODUCTION with RYAN WORSLEY

June 7, 2021 | 10:00a-11:30a PST | Group session

June 7 to June 11, 2021 | 4:00-4:45pm PST | 1on1 sessions

  • Ryan discusses entrepreneurship in music production and how to create a fruitful career as a producer.

  • Each participant meets 1on1 with Ryan for 45 minutes for career coaching

WEEK 3: NETWORKING AND SELLING YOURSELF AS A PRODUCER with HOWARD REDEKOPP

June 14, 2021 | 3:00p-4:30p PST | Group session

June 14 to June 18, 2021 | Varying Times | 1on1 sessions

  • Howard discusses how to best position yourself as a producer in the industry. The ins and outs of networking and getting your name out there as someone artists want to work with.

  • Each participant meets 1on1 with Howard for 45 minutes for career coaching

WEEK 4: FEEDBACK AND LISTENING SESSION with ELISA PANGSAENG, RYAN WORSLEY, and HOWARD REDEKOPP

June 21, 2021 | 1:00p-2:30p PST | Group Session

  • Participants receive feedback on 1-2 of their songs from all 3 producers

Elisa Pangsaeng

Elisa Pangsaeng is a Canadian record producer, songwriter, and audio engineer. She fosters safe spaces for writing and recording, while bringing focus and energy to every session. Select credits include Lights, Yukon Blonde, Kinnie Starr, Said the Whale, GRAE, STACEY, and LOLO.

Ryan Worsley

For more than 20 years, Ryan Worsley has been studiously, methodically, prodigiously, and obsessively honing his craft. Most recently he was nominated by the Juno Awards for Recording Engineer of the Year (2020) but was first recognized by the WCMA's in 2015 with his first award for Engineer of the Year and a nomination for Producer of the Year. He has been nominated in subsequent years - 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 in one or both of these categories - and took home Producer of the Year in 2018. 

Ryan's clients are award winners, chart toppers and some of Canada's most promising talent in pop, rock, indie, R&B and jazz and has therefore, through his Echoplant Studios, been able to make a considerable mark on the current musical landscape of BC. Ryan has worked with artists including Dear Rouge, Monowhales, Said The Whale, Fake Shark, Mathew V, Madison Olds, Basia Bulat, Shaun Frank and Raaban.

Howard Redekopp

Howard Redekopp is a Canadian record producer best known for his work with Mother Mother, Tegan and Sara, and The New Pornographers. He has produced a Juno winning album, two Grammy nominated albums, and a Latin Grammy nominated album. Howard sits on the board of directors at Music BC and recognizes the privilege he has to do what he does in the place that he does, embracing opportunities to mentor and give back.
